So, I’ve wanted to have bees for so many years now. But I just kept putting it off because I felt so overwhelmed in other areas of my life that I just couldn’t bring myself to launch out on the great bee adventure that was “brooding” in my heart.

Here’s how I pushed myself over the edge into action.

1st I sold some things around the house. Then I found a beehive style I liked- the simplest beginner style hive that I thought I could handle. I found the idea for the hive in the book DIY Projects for the Self-Sufficient Homeowner: 25 Ways to Build a Self-Reliant Lifestyle .

Self sufficient Homeowner DIY projects
A great resource book for fairly simple DIY projects for people who want to move toward getting more self sufficient.

So a friend of the family recently started his own woodworking business and I wanted to support him in that, so I figured why not take a step in the direction of my Bee keeping dream?  He quoted me an awesome price of $110 per hive made from cedar, so I bought 2 hives from him. It only took him a couple days to actually make, and I’m so excited that I’m getting them tomorrow!!!  Now I just have to find a safe place to put them. I also need to find bees to put in my hives.  Though I have thought of making a bee trap, I might have to wait on the bees until I can sell some more stuff and afford to buy some online or from someone local. Isn’t it amazing that you can buy bees online? As I was looking on ebay for other bee stuff that I’ll need to save up for, I found my dream hive! I’m totally going to show this to my husband because he had mentioned getting me a Flo-Hive for my birthday. I’ve wanted one since they came out a couple years ago. They look amazing. But I found a replica on ebay that was made by someone in the USA!!! It has special “auto-flow frames” that allow you to turn a key and the honey flows right out and into your jars or containers without disturbing the bees.  It was half the price of the original Flow-Hives.  See it here. Below is a clickable link to the amazing hive I found on ebay.

I’m so excited to be taking a step in this direction. I’ll post pictures of my new hives when I get them. And I’m also going to research more on how to actually get some bees in there.
