What Does The Bible Say About Miscarriage?

Ugh…This can be a scary topic when you’re pregnant. Sometimes I felt like I was crossing my fingers, avoiding stories of others that had had a traumatic thing happen during their pregnancy. It seemed to never fail though that someone would need to tell me of some other family that had lost their baby through some weird freak accident. Or for just no reason. People seem to like to tell you these stories right at the most inconvenient times. I myself try to never tell horror stories. I believe most of us need more courage and faith, not more fear.

While I’ve never consciously had a miscarriage, when Josiah was born there were 2 water sacs, which the midwife said meant that most likely there had been a 2nd baby conceived. But the sac was totally empty except for water. God only gave us Josiah’s name over and over though, so we were only expecting him.

I pondered it briefly, but it was more like a case of “the baby that wasn’t there” – not actually losing a child you are expecting. So, I’ve never miscarried as far as I know- by the Grace of God. Which I’m so very thankful for.

Something that has really helped me in the whole “Having Babies” area is a little book called Supernatural Childbirth by the late Jackie Mize. That little book is so simple and straight to the point. I love it. It’s filled with encouragement and practical advice that pretty much anyone can use.

Now more recently I’ve found so much Godly, inspiring, encouraging, fun, good quality information on Supernatural Pregnancy and delivery! I’m so thankful for it, because just ten years ago it “seemed” it didn’t exist. Now it’s ever increasing. I remember thinking, I need to talk to someone who’s done this without pain, without it being traumatic. And I did run into a lady at a church conference that described her quick and pain free childbirth but it was hard for me to wrap my head around it because of my own experiences. Each time I feel I get a little closer to having a pain free delivery.

But back to miscarriage. I believe that it’s super important to know God’s will in every circumstance. Otherwise you’ll have a hard time asking God for help, or asking Him for a specific outcome. How can you ask God to save your baby in an emergency if you think it might be His will to “take” your baby?

So let’s look into God’s Word to find God’s Will concerning miscarriage.

Exodus 23:25,26

25 Worship the Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, 26 and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span.

Deuteronomy 7:13

13 He will love you and bless you and increase your numbers. He will bless the fruit of your womb, the crops of your land—your grain, new wine and olive oil—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you. 14 You will be blessed more than any other people; none of your men or women will be childless, nor will any of your livestock be without young.

In the Bible, miscarriage is spoken of as a curse. The reason I’m even trying to establish this is because there are those that will say that in some cases miscarriage might be God’s will. If your enemy comes against you and your baby in your pregnancy and you agree with him, and allow him to convince you that a miscarriage could be God’s will, it will be like the spiritual equivalent of allowing a thief right in your front door to steal your most precious possessions in front of your face. You have to know your spiritual rights. You have to know God’s will and His Word on the subject.

Here are some awesome testimonies that will help you understand God’s Word and His Will in Childbirth, Miscarriage and a future hope for your family:

Here’s another link to Jackie Mize’s book Supernatural Childbirth.

Supernatural Childbirth: Experiencing the Promises of God Concerning Conception and Delivery.

I can’t recommend this book enough, because of all the wonderful testimonies it contains from Jackie herself who overcame infertility and miscarriage, and so many other women that also overcame those things and more. It’s just so encouraging.

I found that the lady from the youtube videos above, Nerida Walker, also has a book out that I plan on getting. I’m going to include a link : God’s Plan For Pregnancy: From Conception to Birth and Beyond

I’d love to hear from anyone that has any suggestions for powerful, encouraging resources regarding miscarriage and God’s Word and His Will that I could add to my Resource List I’m compiling. Also, testimonies are welcome. I’d like to also make a gallery or a post dedicated to “Rainbow Babies”. It’s a term I’ve come across more recently when people celebrate the Babies they’ve had after miscarriages. I’d like to leave you with this scripture regarding the nature and character of God.

John 10:10 ” The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
