I’ve been wanting to get my freezer full of premade meals for years now. But it always seems so full of…junk. We had a friend that gave us a bunch of stuff from his freezer that he just had too much of. But so much of it was freezer burnt that it was…well. It tasted bad ok. And I’m not a picky person. Also, a lot of it was rabbit. Do you know what freezer burnt rabbit tastes like? Rabbit can be amazing if you cook it right, and don’t get any of the fat into the meat. Otherwise it gets this weird gamey taste. I’ve tried it several different ways now, and the best way is fried. But we have a whole freezer full of rabbit and chicken meat that has now been cooked and put in ziplocks. Justin helped me clear out a lot of the mystery “stuff” we were given that was basically unrecognizable or un-salvageable. And I’ve been feeding the cooked freezer burnt stuff to the stray cats and our dogs. They love it. Once that freezer is empty my plan is to fill it with prepared meals that will save us time and money. I’ve been also thinking about using the freezer meals to help me lose weight. Kind of like a DIY Jenny Craig type thing.
As I was researching Once a Month Cooking and Freezer Meals I found this site that has a huge wealth of information. They also do meal plans. I signed up for their free mini meal plan to check it out. I’ve always been a little intimidated by freezer cooking, so I feel like this will help me jump in more confidently. I think of how awesome it feels to have food already made and extra time to work on more creative projects- and it makes me just want to throw my excuses in the garbage! It’s time to do this!
