As a child I must have gotten “saved” like 100 times. Almost every time there was an alter call I was down there getting “saved” again. I remember thinking, why do I keep doing this? How will I ever know if I’m actually saved? I knew something was wrong.
So one day in 6th grade (I think) I pulled out my study bible and looked it up. I think I just looked up the word “saved” in the back of the Bible. And I came across this scripture:
Romans 10: “9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. ”
Wow. I was blown away. It was so simple. So I asked myself, do I really believe that Jesus is and was the Son of God and that He actually died and rose again from the dead? Yes, I did. And I made sure to tell Him that out loud right then. And my faith has only grown stronger since. I know so much more about His life, His death and Him rising from the dead than I did then. Jesus is an actual historical figure. He lived and walked this earth. And since then I’ve never questioned my salvation. Though when I was younger I haven’t always been able to explain it to others.
And since I had an experience meeting God in person in a dream, I’ve been able to hear and interact more with the Holy Spirit. If you’d like to read more about that go here.
