Marriage in Crisis Mode?

October 12, 2019 By Emily Leave a Comment

This subject is one that God’s been putting on my heart for weeks now. I hesitate to share about my marriage because it’s private and it has it’s ups, it has it’s downs. I’ll put it this way, lately I remembered just how it feels to be on the downside.

I started to feel this compassion for the many many lonely, hurting people out there. So many people having marriage problems. So, I went looking for some encouragement and testimonies of others who could help walk me through my troubles.

In my particular marriage, I was finding that I would casually say or do things that triggered emotions in my husband that would turn into a big fight between us. Sometimes the reverse would happen, and I’d wonder why I reacted the way I did.

To me, it made no sense. As I prayed about it later God spoke to me using a Sid Roth show I came across. Here are some of the things that were highlighted to me:

  1. There’s an enemy involved, and It’s NOT your spouse.
  2. What are you communicating? As Inigo Montoya from the movie The Princess Bride famously said, “I do not think it means what you think it means.” You may unconsciously be telling your spouse they are worthless. Or maybe they are saying it to you by their words or actions and it sparks a huge fight. The devil, your enemy, is broadcasting messages to your spouse, and to you too. The enemy assigned to you and your family knows the secret areas of pain and weakness you have from past poison darts they’ve wounded you with. They are the ones whispering lies to the both of you trying to divide you from each other. That’s what the word devil means, to divide.
  3. Ask God what you did or said to make them feel a certain way.  The fight or outburst may not have been your fault at all, but at least be open to hearing from God about the situation.
  4. Ask God to open your ears and eyes to hear what your spouse and children need from you.

These are the 4 simple notes I had taken down in my phone that I thought were important.

The main thing I’ve been reminded of lately is that:

“ …we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12 KJV

and remember to give grace to those who don’t deserve it. None of us deserve it anyways.

This scripture came to me recently and reminded me to finish writing this post:

James 1:19,20

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger,

for the anger of man works not the righteousness of God.”

Here’s a link to the Sid Roth video that really blessed me.
