So I got this not so nice comment the other day, ironically in response to a post about “Pregnancy Shaming” . And since my site is meant for encouraging people that may have it in their hearts to have more children. I’m not going to publish this comment in the comment section. It seriously might make someone depressed. But… I will respond and reply to this person in a post. Because I know these are legitimate questions people have. I’ve heard all this stuff before. So this person actually gave me some good material to write about.
But lets be honest, everything I write comes from my perspective and my opinions. Just like everything any of us says comes from the way we view the world, it’s tainted or framed by our culture, and how we were raised, and what we’ve experienced. With that said, let me try to answer to some of the things said. Here’s the comment that was made in response to a quote from a quote in my post:
“This is by far the most ignorant thing I have ever read in my life. Maybe actually being prepared to have children is better than using your v—– as a teleportation device to bring an extra welfare check into your household and add to an already overpopulated country. Ill tell you who gets to decide who is worthy. Tax payers. Most people having their 5th, 6th, 7th child are collecting a check from the government because they can’t afford to raise in their section 8 housing. Maybe people iterate these comments because maybe common-sense can overcome stupidity and they are trying to pass that “knowledge” to people that missed that in their families genepool. Not to mention the people that would be judging these people the most that you feel don’t have the right to….guess who they are 90% of the time. Christians. Maybe listen and pay attention to your surrounding and your fellow people who already here that voice this to you, rather than doing what you feel God told you to do.”
I want to respond 1st to the most important thing this commenter said.
“Maybe listen and pay attention to your surrounding and your fellow people who already here that voice this to you, rather than doing what you feel God told you to do.”
1. I don’t live my life based on public opinion, or the wisdom of men. God is the only one that pulled my wretched soul out of hell by sending Jesus to take my place on the cross. God’s Word says also, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6) So when I went to God’s Word to try to see what He said concerning children, this is what I found:
The very 1st thing that God ever said to humans is: Genesis 1:28 “And God blessed them, and God said to them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.”
I don’t “feel” God told me to have more children. I just believe what the bible says in Genesis 1:28. The very 1st 3 things He says to people are:
1. Be Fruitful
3. Fill the earth.
It’s right there in black and white.
So now with that most important point (in my opinion) answered. I’m going to respond to the rest of this insult…err, I mean comment line by line.
“This is by far the most ignorant thing I have ever read in my life.”
In my opinion you aren’t doing enough reading. Kinda dramatic don’t you think? That this is the most ignorant thing you have EVER read in your life. You’ve led a pretty sheltered life if this is true.
*This next one is multifaceted so let me break it down into sections.
“Maybe actually being prepared to have children is better than using your v—– as a teleportation device to bring an extra welfare check into your household and add to an already overpopulated country.
What exactly are your qualifications for “having children”? What makes a person “prepared”? Who has ever been handed their 1st born and felt totally prepared? I’m sure there was probably someone once, that felt prepared and qualified, but I’ve never met them.
A woman using her “v—– as a teleportation device” is the only way any of us can get born, so as funny as you tried to make that sound, that’s how it happens. Should women only use their bodies for pleasure? And see, this is another reason I write about this. It seems that people have forgotten the simple logic of what their bodies are for, and what they’re made to do. It’s the most logical thing for a man to marry a woman and then for them to be intimate, and then for them to have babies.
I’ve noticed that one of the biggest barbs people use in pregnancy shaming is to insinuate that the only reason people want to have more children is to get more money from the government, and because they are so poor. Here’s the thing: when you say this kind of stuff you are basically saying that poor people, or those who you deem to not be making enough money should be sterilized, and considered unfit for parenthood. So just because someone falls on hard times or goes through a hard season in life, they should be judged as not good enough and have their basic rights violated? Proverbs 30:14 “There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.” But ironically God seems to favor the poor: Psalm 107: 40-43
“He pours contempt upon princes, and causes them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way. Yet sets He the poor on high from affliction, and makes their families like a flock. The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop its mouth. Whoever is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.”
And as far as our country being overpopulated; Steve Mosher, President of the Population Research Institute states, “Have another child to counter global depopulation. Anyone who has traveled from coast to coast in the United States and seen the vast empty spaces should know that America is not overpopulated. In fact, the entire population of the world could live in the state of Texas, in single-family dwellings with front and back yards. Fertility rates are falling everywhere. The world’s population will never again double. If current trends continue, world population will peak by the middle of this century and then begin demographic freefall. Our longterm problem is not too many children, but too few children. Having another child will help offset the coming population implosion.”
Ok, moving right along to the next line:
“Ill tell you who gets to decide who is worthy. Tax payers.”
Well, I’m a taxpayer too. And my children will also one day be taxpayers, so I’m pretty sure you’ll lose if we take a vote. That’s one of the perks of being fruitful and multiplying. You should take God’s blessings seriously.
Onward to the next insult:
“Most people having their 5th, 6th, 7th child are collecting a check from the government because they can’t afford to raise in their section 8 housing.”
I tried to look up the statistics for this, but couldn’t find any numbers to prove or disprove it. Except that only 14% of the family’s in the U.S. have over 3 and 4 children. So large families are pretty uncommon.
“Maybe people iterate these comments because maybe common-sense can overcome stupidity and they are trying to pass that “knowledge” to people that missed that in their families genepool.”
So all of us idiots out here that get shamed for having “too many” children should actually be thanking those lovely people around us that are just benevolently trying to pass on their “knowledge” and “common-sense” to us by not just implying, but outright saying that we should not be allowed to have children because we are genetically inferior. Our shallow gene pool is also directly proportionate to how much we agree with this guy. Mmkay.
Thanks so much for your comments. It really did make me think…about my genetic inferiority and such. And how superior your insults masquerading as logic are. Thanks for proving my point about pregnancy shaming.
This is my blog, if you don’t like what I post you don’t have to read the “ignorant” things I publish here. I built this site, and it’s my “domain”.
It’s still a free country. This is not communist China with it’s 1 child policy, where you can possibly apply for a second child that they may or may not approve. One of the reasons I write about this subject is because I don’t want my children and grandchildren to have to raise families in a country that forcibly aborts unapproved pregnancies. If we don’t talk about these issues then it’s scary to think of what might happen in the future.
I leave you with this Blessing:
“Indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of their enemies.” Genesis 24:60 Amen.
