I’m a believer in herbal and natural remedies because I’ve seen them work so often. And I happened to have been praying for quite a few years about the menace of Lyme’s Disease and tick borne sicknesses. A good friend that is an avid hunter and outdoorsman told us recently that he had gotten Lyme’s Disease and had taken a course of antibiotics for many weeks and finally did recover. He lives not far away from us.
It reminded me to pray again for a treatment, a cure for Lyme’s Disease. Here’s a little background…
When I moved to Missouri after I got married I remember driving a little ways past St. Louis and suddenly I noticed the change in the smell of the air. It smelled fresh and like the woods. I sighed a big sigh of relief, because I loved that smell. Where we were coming from in Florida did not have that smell. It made it a little easier for me to leave my home and family thinking of the fresh air and all the outdoor hikes and forests and creeks we could explore.
Unfortunately, I got introduced to a new menace to my newly married existence very quickly…the tick. I knew what they were before I moved to Missouri. But for some reason, they were wild and free and everywhere in Missouri. Add to that, they carry the deadly Lyme’s Disease. Not cool. Lyme’s Disease is a scary one, it’s hard to treat, and does some terribly evil things to a person. It can mimic all sorts of other diseases and can be very hard to diagnose and treatment is not always successful.
Suffice to say, I did have to deal with my fears of ticks, and taking my children outdoors. I’d say this year we’ve seen the least amount of ticks of any of the years we’ve been here. Of course, this is the 1st and only year we’ve ever paid someone else to consistently mow the lawn.
Another thing that has helped our family combat ticks and other nasty creatures is that I have gotten really into essential oils, of which all bugs seem to hate. I make homemade bug spray with lavender essential oil, a little olive oil, and some alcohol (vodka or rum). I had some laying around because I was planning on making some special soap with it. Seriously. Vodka is the cheapest, and is good for making vanilla extract too.
We used this bug spray 2 nights ago at the drive in movie theatre and none of us got even 1 bug bite. The week before we were outside at our own homemade drive in movie theatre in the backyard and each of my boys got about 14 to 19 bug bites each. The others also got bites but had been more covered up with blankets. I was the only one that got zero bites. That was because before the movie started I went in to put my 18 month old to sleep and got my bottle of lavender essential oil and put it straight on to all my exposed skin. I offered it to everyone else, but they all said, “No thanks.”
So anyways, my fears of Lyme’s Disease and ticks have definitely eased up. But when our friend told us his story about getting Lyme’s it stirred an old fear up in me. Which I promptly gave to God in prayer. He reminded me of Psalm 91 and I asked Him for a cure and a treatment that worked for those who encountered this nasty disease.
Now a couple weeks later and I get an email from Dr. Axe’s blog that new studies have shown that the use of the liquid stevia extracted with alcohol has been shown to kill Lyme’s Disease better than the usually prescribed antibiotics! The stevia killed all the various forms of the bacteria that causes Lyme’s Disease, and the bacteria stayed dead unlike when it was treated with antibiotics.
They mentioned that the highly processed white powdered form of stevia was not successful at killing the bacteria that causes Lyme’s Disease. The processed form of stevia not working is probably because it only had tiny amounts of actual stevia left after the processing and was also mixed with genetically modified ingredients. But the stevia extracted with alcohol was what was shown to be effective. They did not test the green powdered form of stevia, which sounds not intelligent to me. But at least they found some success with the other 2 forms that they used.
Ironically, we have used for almost a year, the very processed white powdered form of stevia. I was trying to get us all off of so much sugar and juice. My toddlers and children tend to love juice and it was not easy to wean them off of it. But we did! Though I could never stand stevia in my coffee. Yuck. But now I’m definitely going to try some other forms of stevia extracted with alcohol. And thankfully we started growing some stevia in pots this spring. So I’m going to start making my own stevia extract. In the mean time I’m going to start right away, buying the kind of stevia extracted with alcohol. I’m so excited about this discovery! It’s right up there with the discovery that stevia kills cancer. Dr. Axe briefly mentions this in the article about stevia killing Lyme’s. Check it out here:
